I'm a city girl currently living out in corn country in southwest Illinois. We've always had Mallards, Blue Herons, and Canadian Geese check out our pond but no one stayed until... Three weeks ago we found four Chinese Geese in our yard. They are pretty friendly and not scared of my Newfoundland at all. I thought they would've left by now but they've made themselves at home and we left a big section next to the pond alone for them. Until flooding last night, we had at least fifteen eggs and the females were sitting on the nest pretty regularly. I'm frantically reading all the FAQs and background information but if anyone has advice, please let me know. I called the IL DNR and they said the geese could've been dropped off but I don't know if that's true or not. I don't know if the geese will stay or go but I'd still like to be prepared.
