Hello all. This is my first time incubating eggs. I posted this on another forum.

So, this morning while moving the eggs to put in water in the water channel, an egg accidentally slipped from my hand and fell. Badly cracked, membrane fully exposed, bleeding wouldnt stop. I almost cried. As I had no idea what to do, with a broken and heavy heart had to discard the poor fella.
For future reference, is there a way to save a broken egg? What do I do if the part of the shell broke off into pieces? How do I stop the bleeding?

I've seen people actually try to grow a chicken from a cracked egg right from the beginning, not sure how successful they got but they did show growth progress. I was creep'd out by it.

I believe you can use wax to fix a crack. From a candle, or even from a crayon, I’ve heard. I haven’t had a cracked egg yet, but my first time hatching eggs, I researched EVERYTHING I could about eggs. Although, I’m assuming you’re talking about chickens, though I know more about ducks, having hatched and raised a few. Drip a small amount of wax onto the cracks, while I’m not sure how hot it needs to be, you should check on the egg with cracks on it often when it comes time for hatching: it’s possible that the chick will have trouble getting out because of the wax.:jumpy

I used New Skin this year and that seemed to work well but it wasn't too bad of a crack. For the bleeding try corn starch or a quick stop product for dog toenails

New skin? What is that?
I've heard people use tape to replace the missing shell, can it be regular scatch tape?

New Skin is a product for putting over small cuts or sores on ones skin. Yes I have also heard of people using scotch tape and yes I think it can be just regular scotch tape

Have a search there are a couple of really good threads on here about all different things you can use. I recently fixed a chip with wax.
You have my sympathy last week I dropped a Marans egg the same way on day 14 - totally smashed, yolk everywhere.

It's really sad when that happens. Like if only you could reverse time to prevent any accidents. I'll keep wax and tape and other ideas in mind for the future!! Thanks!!
