Accidentally Hatched Chick

The yolk sack is dry (some remnants in shell). You can guess from the filth of the other eggs what the box looked like and why i tried to clean it.
Broodies in the past never pooped on their eggs and made such a mess in the box. This was a 1 yr old hen and her first time going broody. Does her lack of experience play a roll?

The hen being a first timer at being a broody shouldn't effect this because you accidentally broke the egg. Did she get up and completely leave the eggs and go do other things? If so, it sounds like she knew something was wrong, but not necessarily the egg that was broke and hatched. The yolk sack being dry and it being too early for the baby to hatch, it will be a miracle if the baby survives. I'll be praying the the baby!

She was locked in the box so she could not escape but there was ample room for her to get up off the eggs to do her business elsewhere in the box which she did for the 1st 18 days.
The chick is chirping loudly and moving around the incubator (eyes have opened). It seems to be getting stronger. Fingers crossed maybe it will pull through.
FYI- another egg in the incubator is rocking but has not pipped.

Also, did you ever think that egg shells might be too hard for the chicks to hatch? When I hatched my own, they went over their hatch date by a week. Maybe by you accidentally breaking the egg, you helped the one chick. Maybe the broody knew the shells were too hard and gave up on them because she didn't know how to help. My dad suggested to put a little crack in the egg and see if the babies can finish it. If they seem to be having trouble, help them a little but don't rush it.

Well.....there was another egg i thought may be rocking. I've never cracked one on purpose but i gave it a try. Apparently it was vibrations in the house making it rock. One light tap and it exploded! Full blown rancid nastiness all over me!
I think im discarding all the others. I'll try to nurse this one along until he looks like its not going to work. Then i will do the merciful thing if needs be.
Next batch is in the incubator.

Aw thats sad. I would, before you get rid of the rest, do the same thing to the rest of the eggs but outside. So then you know what ones are good and bad. That one egg might have been bad but not the rest. I would also try to nurse him along. I’m actually dealing with a sick hen myself right now, and I’m nursing her along at the

What!?!

Don’t worried, they all hatched, we lost a few because of sickness, but the rest are fine and I’m nursing one of them back to health right now. They are about 2-3 years old now.

All the rest were either dead chicks inside or rotten. But good news!
The little guy is upright and looking great!
