We hatched chickens in our classroom this year. The eggs came from my cousin's chickens. So the plan was when they hatched he would take the chicks and keep them until big enough to re introduce into the brood. Well out of 50 eggs only one hatched. The kids named it Kyle. Kyle would cry in the classroom because he was all alone so I would spend much of the day holding him because he was lonely. Then I brought him home to keep him until he grew up enough. However, I think Kyle has imprinted to me. He cries when he hears my voice. He prefers to be in my lap. When we take him outside he flaps and cries and just wants to be in my lap. I worry that putting him in with the other chickens would be dangerous to him...I'm not sure he even knows he's a chicken. What do I do now?!
Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.
