Ack! One baby here.. nobody else has even pipped!

Wow! This morning I got up, went to the kitchen- brooder was dark. I panicked, knew baby had frozen.. Hubby's electric smoker was on the carport, running from the back porch outlet and had tripped the breaker for the porch, kitchen and hallway.

Now I'm so glad this was an only baby overnight. I gt a flashlight and out he came from under his big, squishy "mama pillow", just as warm and peeping, lol. If there had been even just one other baby I wouldn't have had that in there and I don't wanna think what may have happened! :WHEWWW:

It sure taught me a lesson! I may put a pillow in the brooder from now on.. This is one of those really squishy/stretchy one with beans in it- so he can really get up under there and it moves with him. Nothing I'd leave for more than a couple days, wouldn't want them to tear into it, but sure has come I'm handy for now!

That's a good idea to use a small pillow. I usually give mine some kind of stuffed animal but I never thought of that before!

This pillow is the one in the pic- thick plush part makes up the car and the bottom is the really stretchy material. Actually I almost took it OUT last night for fear he would get under and smother. But when I looked, he was on TOP of the pillow sound asleep.

So I built up the other side of the brooder with another blanket (so he couldn't topple off the pillow to the cold side of the brooder and be trapped) and left him there. So at some point being chilled woke him up and he had a nice place to go.

Omg I'm totally rambling. This waiting for more pips is driving me insane! LOLOL
I could not have an incubator, I'd never get anything done I'd be glued to it. actually I don't get much done anyway especially on nice days i like to spend them outside with my flock.

Looking forward to seeing pics of new babies..
