to follow on the paintball gun tangent you can borrow my idea from our old house, where the BIG dogs were roaming free( retired military working dogs, bull mastiffs, wolf hybrid, all the huge ones) all around my 4 yr old and two little shih zhus. however it is a bit expensive. get you a paintball gun, then get on the internet and pick up "pepper spray balls" the same kind police use for riot control, theyre pricey but it works. not only does it run off the dog. but as soon as that dog gets home and loves up to the family, that whole house gets a nice dose of pepper spray to go along with the dog. all the owners on my old street learned right quick to make sure the dogs knew to stay out of my yard. You could also try to surround your property with chili pepper. Dogs can't stand sniffing it.
