I have 5 Wyandotte chickens, they are just starting to reach egg laying age. These are our first chickens, so it is all new. We have had 3 small eggs in the past week. I have one chicken that is acting strange, she has been very vocal, keeps separating herself and laying down in secluded spaces, it also seems like she is walking a bit strange. She also has a little bit of a hunchback that the other chickens do not have. I checked her vent, and did not see or feel an egg. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on. I have attached pictures of her.

Hi how is she doing now? When you say reaching laying age, do you know if she is actually laying yet? And what kind of sounds is she making? She does look a bit hunched up imo, she may be egg bound if she is actively laying eggs already.

She seems a little more active, the vet has us giving her children’s Motrin though. They are 20 weeks old. I’m not sure if she is the one laying. She is squawking, much louder then I’ve ever heard before

If you suspect she is egg bound, you may want to consider giving her some human calcium plus d3 vitamins. The dosage is 1 600mg tablet per day. Just pop the pill in her mouth and she will swallow it whole. It is a lifesaver for egg bound hens. I hope this young that is not the problem, but you never know. What is her diet? Has she acted interested in the nesting boxes?

I don’t believe she is egg bound, she seems a bit better except her limp has gotten worse. She holds her right foot up when she stands and lays down often

Oh no! Have you looked at the bottom of her feet? Felt up her whole leg for anything out of place or tender spots?

I'd try the Calcium Citrate+D3 and see if that helps.

Sometimes when a pullet is coming into lay they can act a bit out of sorts.

Your vet prescribed Motrin for? The limp? How long has she been limping?
