Hey All! I'm a first time chicken custodian and I'm going with a method of chicken run flooring I saw in a sustainability video. The basic idea is that you dig a 6-12 inch trench that is most of the area of your chicken run and pack it with hay (I'm using alfalfa). As the chicken scratch and dig they're turning their waste into the hay and starting the composting process themselves. Supposedly this leads to less odor and is a cleaner flooring option. Have any of you seen or heard of this before? I searched the forums with no luck. I'm still looking for the original video, but any of your experienced feed back would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Kathleen

Aaaaaaand I finally found it on the forums. Heres the video, regardless. They demo the deep bedding method at the 7 minute mark.

You can all disregard this post otherwise. I hate it when I do that.
