So, it was quite a long time ago, but resent events have made me wonder. Long standing issues with the sociopath next door and he recently put rat poison in my yard.
I didn't have a full necropsy done because I didn't think it much mattered and I thought it might be something in the heater. Coop damage had my birds in the house and it was late December. I had 8 birds, at the time, and all but one died. They came down with an acute respiratory syndrome, which killed them fast even with anti biotics and steroids. They all had symptoms within 24 hours of the first. My vet did a partial necropsy, on one bird, and didn't have a guess on the cause . Severe pneumonia and liver damage. They weren't exposed to any new birds. I wasn't anywhere I could have picked anything up.
I know I'm asking about pure speculation(I'm just wondering if maybe I should be on the lookout for something), but is anyone aware of anything that could have been done to them that would cause that. Any kind of poison? I didn't get sick and the cats didn't get sick. Not much concerned about speculating on anything infectious because that's moot. Just concerned he might continue trying to kill my new birds and if there's some poison that could do this I want to be looking out for it. I've got cameras, but I'm not going to rely on that.

Are you in the US?

Edit... I now see you are.
Are you aware that you can send a dead bird to your state lab to get an e-crop seed that will indeed give you a detailed answer as to why it died?
Not all vets are be able to do this but the state lab can.
