acv use?

So I put 1 tbl Bragg's ACV in my gallon waterer & it developed something nasty. Not sure if it was mold, but threads of green in it and chickens would not drink it, that's for sure. I only have 3 chickens so trying to figure out a way to give them enough water but not so much it sits forever, and also utilize the ACV for the health benefits. Waterer is gallon nipple waterer homemade from vinegar bottle, if that makes any difference. Any advice on this will be greatly appreciated!

I think plain water is the best, but it needs to be changed often, especially in warm weather, and especially if it's in the sun. I keep my waterers in the shade, at least, and rinse them at least every other day. Mary
