And my young chicks are eating the sand. I thought I would add this so they could dust bath, but they are eating the sand. Will this hurt them, do I need to remove it. I lost a chick early on when I first put them in the coop. The dang thing gorged itself on the saw dust. Now I am worried my teenage chicks are going to do the same thing with the sand. WWYD?

Put something over the sand box and wait and see what happens to them.
I read some where on here today that someone used potting soil as a dust bath.
If they keep eating it, maybe change it out.

I would recommend potting soil too. My chickens love it!! I just put sand on the floor of my run. So far they are not eating it intentionally. My chickens are about 9 weeks old.
