I know I'm preachin' to the choir here, but...

The natural instincts of chicks amazes me.

Today, after a week of putting paper towels over the sand to be able to keep track of chick poops and make cleaning a couple of times a day easier, I pulled up the paper towels so the littles could be on the sand bedding. (I use sand in the coop and run.) A couple immediately flopped down and started taking dust baths, and a couple of others started scratching in it. The dust baths part was so cute with their little nubby tail butts! They were so happy.

That instinct kicks in like that when they are only a week old is amazing to me. No hen to show them the ropes, just their innate knowledge. Just another part of what makes these little creatures so fun to watch.

Chicks are adorable, aren't they? And then there's the amazing part!
Yes! My partner has never been around chickens. He still isn't sure what to think of my older two, but he knew chickens were part of the deal with me. Every time he comes in and out of the house, he stops and talks to the chickies (in the garage for now) and checks on them. Because of chicks, he may get this whole chicken thing. lol
