Addendums to restrictive covenants

Does anyone have experience getting addendum's added to restrictive covenants to allow chickens? It looks like I need 75% of neighbors to sign on but wasn't sure how long or complicated (or expensive) the process was. We're in Chapel Hill NC where most folks are open to backyard hens but have one neighbor who is worried about her property value. Yeesh!
