Adding 3 more chicks to my 1 lonely hatchling?

Oh sorry, I was just looking at your list, not at the photo! If I understood correctly, you wrote that the hens you ordered were RIRs and Comets, and the other breeds you ordered were roos. If that's the case, you likely have a roo, just because your chick doesn't look like an RIR or Comet. Does that make any sense?

Interesting info, keesmom! Thanks for sharing.
I think the OP's chicks are mixed breeds hatched from local eggs. The RIRs and Comets being the potential moms and the Dom, partridge Rock and Wyandotte being the potential dads.

Welp, came home to some sad news. My only hatched chick died exactly 1 week from today. Brooder was 90 degrees warm, water is clean from last night, chick grit still plenty. The chicks lifeless body was laying directly under the light. I'm a little confused the sudden death, when this morning he was happy chirping and walking around. Any ideas why it would die? The three other chicks are arriving tomorrow, so unfortunate situation today.:(:(

I'm so sorry. :( It sounds like you did everything right. The chick may have been born with a fatal condition...I've heard of some problems taking days to weeks to manifest in chicks. That's all I can think of...

Again, so sorry. It's hard to lose a chick, especially when you have no idea why! Hopefully the three LBs will distract you when they arrive tomorrow. Wishing you all the best.
