I have nine 17wk old hens, 2 bantam silkies, a cuckoo maran, a silver-laced Wyandotte, a gold-laced Wyandotte, a Wellsummer, and 3 EEs. Someone needed to rehome a silke roo, so I decided to take him. He is a couple of weeks older than my girls. Many of the threads I have read have varying methods on how to do the introductions, does anyone have a method that they have used that worked well?

Silkie roos are not known to be aggressive. Just add him to the flock. As long as bloody wounds do not appear. all will be well.

WISHING YOU BEST

I'm with Rich. I don't usually go with prolonged integration plans. Especially adding a rooster, and all so close in age, I say just put him in if you're not concerned with quarantine. There will be some drama for a while, but they'll get over it.

Adding a mature adult cock(over a year old) to that bunch would probably go pretty well,
tho he would try to at least dominant mount the 17 week pullets if not actually mate them,
and they probably won't be real happy about it.

Adding a 19 week old cockerel might go a bit differently as young cockerels are pretty inept, surging with hormones and might cause some real ruckus, especially if the pullets are not ready to mate.

If you are new to chicken keeping, this can seem quite violent and alarming.

Hopefully you have plenty of space and places to hide 'out of line of sight' and/or up and away from any aggression.

:)Thanks. So far so good. Everyone challenged him except one and and he established himself as King of the coop. Now all is okay again.
