I have five production/ auto-sexed red hens (I got them from tractor supply in a group of red pullets and the tails are white so not sure if true new hampshire reds) who are probably only 17-18 weeks or so...3/5 have started laying in past two days.
I'd like to add a rooster to my flock, and I have found someone local selling a RIR rooster who is 17 weeks.
What do I do to add him to my flock and will there be an issue since they're all the same age? Every bird we've ever introduced had been raised as a chick and lived in my house for weeks. I've never introduced a grown bird! I've been observing my hens and I don't think they've established a pecking order at all yet (we were raising cornish rock crosses before them and had a rooster with that group who dropped in our 125 degree weather as he was too lazy to walk to his dust bath or the shaded bushes to cool down like everyone else....after he passed another CRC hen took over).....
