Hello all, I currently have 4 birds about a week old, I bought a coop from craigslist in wonderful condition,http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00CM...icken+coop&dpPl=1&dpID=61-RvXilVaL&ref=plSrch and I also have the extension for this coop as well. I would really like to build an additional run for this coop because it seems this coop may be too small to house my birds full time. Has anyone out there built a run for this coop? Or anyone maybe have a good idea on how to add one? Thank!

Maybe you could build a run attachment and butt it up against the current run area - same height, same type of fencing- make a pop hole between the two runs and the chickens can come and go through as they please. I would also put a cover on the addition, so no critters drop in for a visit. I have no carpentry skills, so I hope what I suggest is feasible.

Glad you have joined us. And congrats on your new flock.

IMO the coop you have is way too small for 4 full size, full grown chickens and you do need to increase the size or build a new coop.

The Precision pet garden coop is 6.5' x 2.75' total house and run size. Right now I have one chicken in sick bay - a 2' x4' dog crate and there is room only for a water fount and the chicken in there. I have quoted books that estimate the size of a full grown hen as the size of a 5 gallon bucket, but after seeing my BO next to one, I realize she actually occupies the space of 2 five gallon buckets side by side. Your water fount and feeder will occupy the space of 2 full grown chickens.

Personally, I would look at turning the entire thing into a coop and building a covered run around and over it. Or use this as a temporary home until you can just build a larger permanent home with run.

You can try posting your question on the coop/run forums and get more input.
