Ok so i have 5 silkie chicks that are 3 weeks old that i intended on building a seperate run for...however my mom has decided to remodel the living room so that is no longer in the budget so my little ones will have to share a run with my 18 week old rhode island reds and brown leghorns. i intend to put them in a brooder inside the run so that everyone can see each other however i also though about building a small shelter oon the ground for them because ive heard that silkie dont like to climb ramps. So i figured i could make a small shelter (maybe 4x6?) That they could sleep in and I could put an extra feeder in it...how does that sound?

RIRs and Leghorns with Silkies...yes it has been done by many.

However, I would recommend keeping them separate. Maybe you can scrounge some fencing somewhere? You don't want your silkies pecked on the head as it can lead to brain injuries. If you must integrate them, wait until 4 months old.

Your silkies will appreciate no ramps and very low roosts (6 inches or so high) or no roosts for sure. I hope all works out for you. When I used to have silkies they really loved my shed coop the best as it was easy to enter for them (no ramps).
