Adding an extra rooster.

This is so cool! I'm happy for you to have a huge flock like this.

I'm always in the hope that other people can and successfully do have large flocks for the hope that it means all of us can get away with having more of them. It doesn't make sense to me that the limit on poultry is the same as for cats and dogs, with city ordinances.

...

But I guess for your thread question, I have to ask, how far are your neighbors? And are you on the edge or in a city?

I want to ask also how common is it for people have more than 10 birds in a city? (I am hoping that 10 to 20 can be done in the city without being noticed, by others. To me it seems you'd actually need this many if you were producing daily eggs enough for a full family living there.)

 At one point I had 42....yes 42.
Now I have 7 ducks and 19 chickens.

Our ordinance states "as many as can be properly housed and cared for without creating a health hazard or nuisance ".

There is their out if they choose......nuisance=one person complaining.

Thank you! I live just outside city limit (so i’m not technically in the city) I have about an acre and a half of land (roughly i’m not 100% sure) and have neighbors right outside my property. They’ve never complained or caused any issues I do my best to keep my birds my problem though. I can’t answer any questions for keeping them inside city limits as I haven’t lived in city’s limits in a long while.

97 hens is a LOT and more like 3-4 flocks instead of one. From what I have read, 50 or more birds doesn't even fall under one flock "heirarchy". It will probably be fine as long as they have enough space.
They free range daily. I also never had any problems with them being stressed ( like plucking each other’s feathers, bullying or anything else.)

Allow a hen to go broody and you will have all the cockerels you need. I do prefer my roosters flock raised they just have better manners that way in my experience. I wouldn't buy a roo to add to my existing flock as that seems like you will be taking on someone elses problems.

The rooster I want to add is my own bird.
