adding chickens

We have 4 production reds laying right now and lay time we tried to add juveniles to the flock the reds tried to kill them...wondering if we can put a wooden egg in their so they keep laying and in a week or two deep for a day old chicken.
Think that would work?
Is 90 at night and 110 during day outside right now..could we keep the young chicks outside instead of heat lamps keep them in the coop with the reds?
Well all of them still lay with that fake egg in there or will one get all momma-ish on us and so laying
Do they lay when taking care of young?

Older chickens will kill young chicks that they didn't hatch on their own. You have to wait to introduce them when they are about the same time. You'll have the best results by brooding inside or sectioning off an entire area in your coop for the chicks that your full grown chickens can't get into or peck through to hurt the chicks.

Your hens will act aggressively towards the newbies, not motherly. This is due to the "pecking order" and has to do with what chickens eat first and whatnot. Hens that hatch chicks are called "broody" the broody mother hens stop laying eggs to raise the chicks.
