Chickens staying in the coop suddenly

How old are they? And do they have any older hens in the flock or are they all the same age? My flock went through a phase when they were around 3 months old where they wouldn't come out of their coop all day. I couldn't figure out why (my coop is wire mesh bottomed and doesn't have food so there's nothing remotely fun for them to do in there besides roost), but I just left them be. After probably two weeks or so they were back out and about again. At the time I just guessed that maybe they hit a certain age and went through a weird extra skittish phase or perhaps it was predator pressure that I just didn't see. Now at 6.5 months old, they only go into the coop during the day to lay eggs/go broody!

I wouldn't worry too much about it. For whatever reason, they feel more comfortable inside. If something spooked them out there, they'll get over it with time.

my flock of 12. 3 layers go inside the coop on very hot days . stay there till late evening. i keep it cool all times.around 80 all day, i raise temprature a little at night.for them. they seem to like it.
