I have a buff rooster and 2 hens, one egg hatched last week so we also have a baby chick!! We are thinking about adding some more silkies, just want to check to see if we can add different breeds of silkies to the buff ones and if its ok for the roo to mate with them, and if he would mate with our other hens (not silkie)?

That probably sounds stupid but I really have no idea!

Hi, Yes roosters mate with all breeds. I have a gold laced roo bantam - he is tiny! - and he mates with my huge warren hybrid! You can cross silkie colours, it may produce some cute coloured chicks. Black silkies are a dominant colour when breeding and white silkies can only be produced with a white silkie mother and a white silkie father. I bred a buff silkie with a black silkie and of course, got black silkie chicks. With a buff roo, you will also get variations of partridge coloured chicks, which is a nice colouring.
