So I got tired of poop , mud, dirt , and smell and extra bugs are not plesent.
Well Cleaned a but ,(as much as one can do with one arm, got some organic too soil , mixed it in and seeded it, going to keep the 3 ducks and 4 chickens in there coop :/ for 3-4 months. That whole time Tryin g to get the grass to take as much as possible .

Kinda sucks also iv lowed my flock size , but after I heal up in going to get my numbers back up.. And I hope the grass will stand up to the chickens/turkeys /ducks..

Sorry to sound pessimistic but if the chickens have access to it every day I'm not sure anything will survive very long. I'm currently seeing how long I can keep my four pullets in a 100 sq ft side yard without totally killing the grass. But in your case I would try to fence off half the area and seed with something that takes off really fast like annual ryegrass.

This is the growth of grass so far. The surgery went 2 hours longer then expected ,got a new rotator cuff, fixed tendons and ligaments & decided that I fill better with out the pain meds they make me nauseous.

Tho back on the topic of grass . I'm going to attempt to let the grass fill in and get established , and I like the section idea , what I do enjoy is the rare rain watering for me:p

Put some of these over that grass....or it will be gone in no time.

Spread some organic matter; leaves, sticks, wood chips, grass clippings in a nice balance of sizes and shapes and materials and it will greatly reduce the stink and be a haven for bugs(until the chickens find them).

So I let it grow for about two weeks, and let the herd at it for two day, tho I feed tons of greens and feed before the release to slow there grass frenzy eating contest, well the ducks were happy u could just tell when they came outside after going from 15 to 5 jumbo pekin, and being being cramped in there 15x10' house. And the ducks Pekings and blue Swedish& shetland ducks do make little holes digging with there beak. But the chikens just pick a spot and start digging away :cd ( little destructive dinosaurs I tell you) , so after the two days of experiment, I decided torts ducks free range 3-4 a week with the kiddy pool. But leave silkies in the pen , plus i worry less about cyotes ,cats, raccoons and other predators we have that seem to only target small ducks or smaller chickens.

So ya,sat night they went back inside , i closed there door and now I'm going to water the grass heavy, then re seed a few small patched the chickens made, and start adding new weeds, dandelions ,wheatgrass, mint, and other edible fast-growing groundcovers. Should make the turkeys& ducks happier the. Dirt and rice hulls.
