Hey all!
My kids are doing really, really well. Pip, Blondie and Banjo are all developing full-on feathers now, and Blondie is going to be a beautiful, mostly-white bird. I already miss their little fuzzy stage, they have almost doubled in size and appetite! To celebrate their week of life today (almost didn't happen because when I was cleaning the cage they attempted suicide leaps from my hands onto the concrete floor!) I wanted to introduce mealworms for some scratching and protein. I'm also hoping I can endear them to me a little more by treating them. (They still allow me to pet and pick them up, but def. are more skittish than usual lately, developing personality!) Is 7-8 days too early to add the worms? I can always add egg or tuna, but I figured that mealworms would be the most natural and safest bet. (They already eat ground up ones in their feed).
Thank you! You all have been so great so far- I'm so glad I finally joined the forum!

Provide chick grit so that they can digest the mealworms. If you are feeding anything other than food they need chick grit on the side so that they can digest the food.

My checks are 19 days old and I give them soldier worms. They are actually outside right now and eating bugs outside, but they have access to grit.

Awesome. I will have to order online, in the meantime what can I use as a replacement? Otherwise I’ll just hold off on the worms

Ours wouldn't even touch meal worms until they were a couple of weeks old. We wanted to give them treats because they were so gosh darn cute but they didn't want them. Now if I have a bag of anything they simply must have it.
