I currently have 2 (11 week old) hens. I recently lost one so we're looking to get a couple more chicks. How hard is it integrating the younger hens with the older ladies? Hoping to get more of the same breed but in case that's not possible, could anyone recommend a cold hardy breed that meshes well with Buff orpingtons?

Any gentle breed with a SMALL comb will work beautifully.

Maybe look to see what breeders are in your area.

A small breeder produces the best chicks! Also, a small breeder will be able to tell you which of their chickens are most likely to be friendly.

There are many breeds you could go with, if you can't find another Orpington.
I love the Wyandottes (lots of color choices), Dominiques, and Salmon Faverolles.

As to integrating, since you have only ONE adult, it will be much easier for you than for most. Adding three little pullets to just one hen, you might be able to add them as soon as the little ones are fully feathered.
