I am thinking of buying a few more hens for the coop. I looked at several but one was a silver laced wyandotte. Now I looked at efowl's description. It say infrequently broody and further on it reads, "excellent mother.' I thought that's what broody meant. How can you not go broody but be an excellent mother?

Some breeds have occasional broodies but they do bad things when they mother, like not defend the chicks or not show the chicks where food is, or not keep up with their chicks so the poor things get lost, etc.

There are breeds where they go broody a lot and some where you might have only one hen out of 25 that goes broody.
