I recently got new ducklings and I have another drake that is alone. The ducklings are as big as him and I’m hoping to move them in but every time I try to get them in their, my drake chases them and grabs ahold of two females, in particular. What do I do?

Have they met by living side by side but separate? That is the best way to introduce new ducks to an existing flock even if one. And unless the females are of laying age they shouldn’t be in with a drake anyway. Give the females time to mature and give you drake time to accept the others.

Along the lines of this topic, I recently "rescued" two ducks from a neighbor who decided they were too messy. They were Easter purchases at the box farm store. Anyway, one is a drake so I had to separate out my chickens. I kept the new ducks in a different pen, away from but within sight of the established flock for a few weeks. I just put the two new ducks in with my year old Pekins. The Pekins seem timid.

I have three questions right now:

1) How long do you think it will take for the pecking order to be established? The new ducks seem to hog the swimming pool forcing me to put a smaller tub out for the Pekins.

2) Do you think the new ducks will learn to go into the coop at night, like the Pekins do? The previous owner just let them run 24/7.

3) What the heck kind of ducks did I get? (Image below).

Other than hogging the pool are they picking on your Pekins? It can take awhile for them to bond. Are your Pekins females? As for going into the coop it will take them time to get into the routine, if you walk them In every evening they pick it up pretty quick. Not sure on breeds. They are very pretty. @Table4Six maybe able to help on breed. Is the light one white or buff colored?

I have not yet seen any agressive behaviors, just the king-of-the-mountain domination of the pool. Oh, I take that back. I have seen the new ducks chase the Pekins. They did not attack them, just run them several feet away.

The Pekins are female. The cream (probably buff) colored one in the picture above is a female. Her feathers are streaked with light cream and tan colors.

That’s so funny how the newbies have taken over. More than likely they will become a flock, seems when a drake has been attached to one female it can take a while for him to accept others into his fold. If they get to have time out of their pen might help too. I have two Buff females they are great ducks. Not sure what your drake is.

Their run is about 24x10. I don't have exact measurements because, well, I just winged it. LOL I'm hesitant to let them out in the yard just yet. I figure they need to hang out for about a week so they knot that is now their home. I still have work to do on it, but they have the basics. LOL
