I gave away a Sultan rooster who had gotten really nasty and wouldn't quit attacking me. He was in a coop with 3 bantam cochins and 2 sultan hens. I have a barred rock bantam roo with his 2 hens who I'd like to put in that coop - I'm hoping that because the roo and the hens are already together that it won't be too bad.

The cochins are pretty gentle, they got picked on by the sultan hens for a bit when I first added them, but then they all settled in nicely. The sultan hens are the biggest of the group, but I'm hoping they'll be calmer with the Sultan roo gone and accept the BR roo.

I was planning on making the move on Friday night so that I can be around all day Saturday to monitor the situation. I've never added a new rooster to a group of hens before, only new hens. Will hens pick on a rooster? Any suggestions on other things to do to minimize fighting?

I would put them in but separated for at least a week. Otherwise, the easiest way I've found is to put them in at night. Then they sleep together and the next morning mine have always been ok.
