i am getting a few quail (bobwhite) but i would like to add a few more later. a friend of mine said you basically can't do this because the quail will fight and kill each other. is this true even i keep one roo to several females? or do they establish a pecking order?

That depends, sometimes they will fight, other times they won't. It really depends on the individual birds, though bobwhites are known as aggressive. You would most likely need to keep them seperated, yet together, if that makes sense. Like have the new birds in a cage inside the other birds pen? That could work. One thing I do with my coturnix is to move everyone to a new cage, that seems to through them off enough to not notice the newcomers.

I really don't know, I don't have bobwhites except for these 4 babies. I wouldn't think it would be any different, you would just get mixed colored birds from the eggs.

same friend was going to give me the tenn reds but had warned me not to put them in the same pen due to the fighting. i was just interested in the reg bobwhites, so i think i will just stick to my plan of raise and release.it's hard to find any here it seems i thing everybody just raises them to eat, and by the time i find someone close by they are already gone.hoping to release some later on our property, love to hear them call.

The only problem with that is that most places require a permit for the release of them. In my area, they don't live naturally very well either, but I would still need a permit to release them.

my understanding is that Ten Reds are even more aggressive than Bobwhites. I haven't add any newbies in with my bobs, but I know they can be very aggressive within their group if m/f numbers are off or if they are crowded. Bobs like more than the 1ft recommend for quail. Mine have a min. of 2sqft each.

if i were u id just skip the bobwhites and get coturnix
