So, I was way too excited and gave my chicks about a quarter of a small alpine strawberry each at one week. Now that I read this thread I realize that probably isn't the best idea. I will wait on produce until they're older, but I think it's safe to give them bugs if I find them, they go after them on their own anyway. Mine really like mosquito hawks, earthworm (cut up) and moths, and have no interest in ladybugs or Japanese beetles. I read an article that explained that chicks raised by mama hen are offered some of her treats after just a few days old, she will share whatever goodies she finds with them. If anyone is reading this thread worrying, my chicks seem to be fine after our strawberry treat mistake.
