I am seriously considering adding 2-4 ducklings to this year's chick additions of my flock. I live in a rural area, but only have about an acre of land.
Right now I have 6 adult chickens, and 6 chicks in my bedroom. I have 18 eggs in the incubator & will only be keeping the pullets that hatch to add to my flock.
MY son has been wanting to get ducks ever since we started our chicken adventure & I figured that since we're adding more chicks, now would be as good a time as any.

I know this has been asked before, but I didn't find a lot of advice already posted on here, so:

What kind of duck should I add to my flock. I have neighbors that are pretty close, so noise could be an issue. Are some ducks quieter than others?

Hi, I am new to the duck adventure as well.

My understanding is that the cute little Calls are LOUD, and the Muscovies are quiet. I have four Kahki Campbells that are 5 weeks and they are very pleasant sounding when they get going, which is less than I thought it would be. I know some others will chime in with other breeds.

I have or have had runners, cayugas, mallards, khakis, and swedes. my mallards are the noisiest, next up runners. The rest are pretty quiet. males of all are quiet only females quack loudly. I heard muscovys to be the quietest but never had them.

It depends on what you're looking for - do you want an egg layer, do you want them to be calm and friendly, do you want big duck or little ducks...?

My favorite breed are Dutch Hookbills because they're a very old, rare breed, they're unique (you should see the looks people give me when I say I have "Dutch Hookbill" ducks

), they lay lots of blue eggs, they're quiet compared to my Campbells, Runners, and Pekin, and they're the calmest, most friendly ducks I have.
