Got 6 bantam chicks from TSC on Friday 4/1 and added probiotics and electrolytes to their water. Years ago people used to add a tablet to their chicks water to keep them from getting ill. What should I be adding to their water.? I really enjoy all the great info I am getting from this site.

The only additives I use for chicks is a little apple cider vinegar (ratio of 4-5 tablespoons per gallon water - plastic waterer, not metal) as I found it helps prevent pasty butt. Apart from that all they need is a good quality chick starter, medicated (to help prevent coccidiosis) or non-medicated. There are some nice articles on raising chicks, feeding, medicating, etc in the Learning Center that may interest you. Enjoy the site!

Thanks so much. Last time I had chickens was years ago when I was a kid. This site has been such a help. The heating pad over a frame was a great idea. Keeps the little ones nice and warm plus it did not cost me anything since I already had the heating pad.

x1; I use about a TBL of Bragg's apple cider vinegar to a gallon of water...

I also add a SMALL clove of garlic, crushed, to their water..if your waterer is small, then maybe just a tiny piece of a garlic clove..
