Addressing new mini flock

Does his eye look swollen like respiratory illness? He did pull is head underwater while I bathed him 🤦‍♀️ could it be from the water?

He has bumblefoot and scaly leg mites. I see one frostbitten comb tip, but his wattles look okay. Is his comb and wattle color darker than earlier or does it just look that way in the light? His left foot nails need a trimming. The eye does seem a little swollen, but don’t see any bubbles or mucus. The comb doesn’t need treatment, but don’t handle or massage it.

I would soak his feet daily in warm Epsom salts or soapy water for a few days. Coat his legs with oil such as vaseline, mineral oil, canola, or castor oil and rub it in well under the scales. You may also want to use ivermectin pour-on 0.1 ml per every 2 pounds of weight on the back of the neck midline over the spine. Repeat that in 14 days.

You can treats bumblefoot different ways including soaks, using sugardine (betadine and sugar) as a dressing for several days, PRID drawing salve, or doing the surgery to remove any pus.

Look him over for lice and mites, and consider worming him. I don’t think anyone would blame you for taking him back and not having to spend a lot of time treating him.

I don't want to take him back. I feel like he has a better chance of recovery with me. Plus she agreed to pay for his vet bill tomorrow. He came with six other girls I have to inspect yet. I did trim the nails after the pictures and globbed Vaseline all over his legs. I do have two different antibiotics from little mama's hawk attack in November. After vet, I'll most likely give them to him. He did a great poop after I cleaned out his vent.

I'd work on getting rid of the mites on the body first. Ivermectin would be a good choice.
Mites will drag them down.
Of course, address the other issues of the SLM and the foot pad problem.

The facial swelling could be from mites, exposure (frostbite), respiratory illness or ? Hopefully the vet will be able to tell more and make some suggestions as to what treatment/medications would be best to give.

Definitely check the hens for mites and SLM too. Being in a brand new coop, you surely don't want to get mites setting up house in there first thing.
If you have photos of the hens you wish to share, that would be good too.

Keep us posted on what you find out.

Looks like you have your work cut out for you, but.

So I'm kind of metaphorically crapping my pants. The first thing that my vet said was avian flu. They're testing him. I don't know if this is just because it's been in the news and it's been used as a scare tactic according to some.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I have no idea if there is any way to protect your other birds from cull if it is the flu. My best wishes are with you for a negative result.
