I am new to chickens. I have been doing research into the type of bird that I am going to get and came to the conclusion that buff orpington's were the bird for me.

I was wanting to build my own coop and was curious what the minimum amount of space for 6 buff orpingtons should be? And if there are any plans on how to build a coop that will adequately/comfortably contain 5 hens and 1 rooster?

There really isn't a cut and dried answer to this. You will see a guideline of 4 sq ft in the coop and 10 sq ft in the run per chicken posted here, meaning actual floor space they can walk in, excluding feeders, nests, etc. These figures were designed as a minimum to avoid severe pecking, feather picking and cannibalism. I would not keep chickens in a space anywhere near that small, myself, both for their quality of life and because I do not want to do that much cleaning. Here is one very good post about space for chickens:

Another answer you may see is, as big as you can, which I much prefer.
