Adjustable Fence Height - An (el cheapo) Experiment

Did you ever consider just clipping 1 wing on each bird? I did that and my birds no longer make it over my 4ft electric fence. Before they would pop over it live it wasn't even there. No top needed.

Thanks for the ideas folks. I'm trying to do without the netting over the top for a couple reasons.

As for clipping their wings...YES, I just did that last night after I saw them power over the fence. Actually, just clipped the right wing. Those girls were none too happy with me...what a bunch of drama queens! One of them saw the fate of her friends and took off for the woods. She hid under a fern with leaves and sticks piled up over and just hunkered down and shut up. It was real quiet all the sudden. She didn't make a peep. It was dusk so I started tromping around trying to scare her up. Just by luck I did manage to see a couple white tail feathers through an open spot in the brush. Anyway I got her back down to the coop, so we'll see how uppity they are today! 'Course it's raining now and they don't even want to come out.

My Polish regularly clear ten-foot fences. (Yes, you read that right, TEN (10) foot fences. Let's just say I have an odd neighbor, it's her fence.). Tiny fluttery plastic pieces over their head would probably make them clear my two-story house.

No ideas or helpful hints off the top of my head, but good luck!

Actually, you want to clip only one of their wings, and they will be so unbalanced as to fly like a brick. If you clip both wings, they flap harder and get stronger, buffer wings...

I have no doubt they could have cleared 10 before if they were really motivated. We'll see how they get along with the wing clip...please don't tell me your Polish have clipped wings!
