I don't want anyone fighting about this. i know what the laws are here and know were not responsible and like i said, i dont plan to pursue anything, he's a single dad. We will be stopping by tonight to see how she is, if she is.

My finger was killign me when i got up this morning..i think the numbing wore off so i had to take a pain pill. I can't believe they reccomend taking 2 at a time..boy do i feel spinny right now

. I go see my Dr today for a follow up on it but it still looks good...as good as a nailless, stiched finger can look anyway, lol.

So, by saying that you think an automobile driver should have to pay vet bills for hitting a dog that was running loose in the road....you've just got the wrong idea of how things work. Legally speaking, I mean.

no i can't see the difference. From where i live. If i was driving down the road and someone accidentally let the dog out of the house and couldn't get the dog to stop(stuff happens). If i ended up hitting that dog.... i would be held responsible. Regardless. there is no "cut and dry potatoes"or whatever you were trying to say and being funny. I simply stated how i felt and how it would have been handled here. That is all. No one has to like the fact of what i said.

Only if the collision resulted in $500 or more in damage... and I didn't later report it. (this happens all the time with deer hits... almost nobody around here sits next to the deer and waits for the police to show up. Unless the vehicle is in-operable of course. The reports are made later.)

Since I drive a 3/4 ton 4x4.. it would take a pretty good sized dog to do $500 damage to my truck.

The dog owner would be responsible for any damages. It could be "accidental" that the dog was loose, but it it ultimately the dog owner's responsibility to keep their "property" (ie, dogs) contained and out of the motorway. The driver was simply minding his/her own business.

I dont think you completely understand how this whole thing works...
Yes, the DOG OWNER is responsible for their OWN dog vets care...the dog was running loose IN the road..its ILLEGAL... The dog owner can even get fines from the dog officer for it!! (on top of paying their own vet bills..)...there are leash laws for a reason. AND..if that accident had caused any human injuries... then i believe the owner WOULD be responsible for them too! The dog owner CAN be sued for its dog running loose.
Yes, it may have been an accident that the dogs were out...but trust me... the judge wont care...
So..just remember..if your dog gets loose..even on accident...it can cost you BIG money...

driver was on a residential road. animals are loose. partial to blame would be any motorist that failed to stop.
