Adopt a Chicken

Thanks for posting this!
I got my first three hens from a rescue. This is a great place to find animals in need of a new home.
Unfortunaltely, none in my area, but I hope someone here finds room enough to bring one home!
PS, everyone, there are goats, sheep, donkeys, horses, and more that need homes too!

Wanted to bump this up.
Petfinders is such a great organization if you are looking for any kind of new pet!
On the homepage, left side, is a search tool. In the Animal box type bird, in the Breed box type chicken, duck, goose. You just might find your next new pet!
Or there are always plenty of dogs and cats that need adopting!

I surf petfinder all the time. I have yet to find a chook within a 3 hour driving range thought =/ I did look there when we started looking for our horses, we ended up adopting 2 retired polo ponies. Both of our dogs are adopted, and the cat is a rescue. When the time comes for a new dog, Ill be looking to adopt yet another friend looking for a good home. Im thinking of great dane, lots of them around. From my experince, rescued/adopted pet seem to know they have been helped and are much more appreciative.

Good idea starting this thread, lots of peeps dont know about petfinder!

Seems like some of those are sexed wrong! (and I have NO experience)

King Tut looks really pretty - could be a rumpless Arucana (?)

Thanks for the link. I didn't know about it. I spent more than an hour there and still didn't see everything in my area. I saw so many dogs I want to bring home. Just wish the DH wouldn't have a heart attack if I just even got one. I'm going to show him a couple tonight from the site when he gets home but I know he'll say "NO!". We have so much room here for more animals and my son and I have so much TLC to give. I'd have a whole zoo if I could. To bad DH doesn't feel the same.

I am hoping to adopt a hen tomorrow from a nearby shelter. They never list their chickens on Petfinder, but I have done animal rescue for many years, so as soon as I got acreage, I knew I would want to adopt more than just dogs and cats. They said they just got a silkie rooster in too, but I wouldn't have enough hens to keep him and my other (I suspect, still waiting for them to mature) roosters happy. So glad to see this posted and that other people are into rescuing :)

It's official. I was able to give my info and pay the $5 adoption fee over the phone even though she isn't available to leave until tomorrow (Thursday). My sweet man will pick her up after work and then bring her home to me. They said she is a brown Bantam and has been laying eggs (I would have gladly adopted her even if she were old and not laying). She was picked up as a stray.
I was also told that they have a Silkie Rooster if anyone in SoCal is interested. They are the Ramona Humane Shelter in San Jacinto.
