Just read a flier from a farmer who lets you adopt one of his hens but they stay on the farm. You can even name it. He charges $36 for the twelve dozen eggs over a twelve week period. It's a new wrinkle on CSAs, Community Supported Agriculture.
Small farmers often do that with produce - you pay a set amount ahead of time to them so they have capital to start up in the spring and then you receive a portion of what they produce for the season in weekly allotments. We even have that in Alaska, but this is the first business application I've seen regarding laying hens. Interesting business idea. This man raises his own food and feeds his free-ranging hens extremely well. He loves farming & the photos were wonderful.
