Adopted Chicks - can you help identify?

I was thinking the same thing. I know I would be upset if fertile eggs were taken from my daughter's Naked Neck or Silkie pens after we'd spent quite a bit of money to get the birds and/or the hatching eggs for the birds. I know an awful lot of folks up here who would be upset. Whether or not we intended to hatch out the eggs, the fact of the matter is that any chicks hatched would be our breeding and we would never get the credit. Those may have been eggs that the owner would have collected and sold. There are a lot of possibilities but taking eggs for them to be hatched without the owners' permission is the same thing as stealing. I know at our fair, unless you specify that you don't want eggs collected from your pen, the eggs are collected, refrigerated immediately, and donated to the food bank to prevent any sort of appearance of something like this happening.

On another note, the third chick looks like it could be a colombian Wyandotte. The little dark bantie could be a D'Anver but I can't see the comb. Not clue on the other one just yet but like someone else said, there's no guarantee that they are purebreds since the hen may have been free ranging or cooped with a different roo prior to the fair.

Thank you for responding with some suggestions! It's awesome to be able to have this as a resource for when you are stumped.

As for those accusing me of stealing... WOW! My friend handles all the DISPOSED eggs at the fair. Those owners who want to save their eggs have little signs on their cages stating such. The rest of the cages (typically those who cannot be bothered to clean out their own cages), including left eggs are, to be cleaned out along with bedding each day by those who selflessly volunteer to take care of the poultry barn. There is no Food Bank donation. The eggs which are collected are left to the disposal of those who clean the cages out. Is it assumed they are trashed? Maybe. My friend paid is an honest person and I am confident she would NEVER remove an egg from a cage of someone who who wanted their eggs or who would have exception to her removing the eggs. She didn't keep track of which breeds because she knew we truly didn't care about breeds. I don't show our chickens, they run around our back yard and get locked up at night, they are chased and cuddled by my two small children and loved by all of us including the dog. I could give a rats behind if they are purebred or chicken mutts. I love the look of Brahma's and have never been able to purchase (because I dont want 25 babies or I miss the auction) eggs or chicks. My fave girl went broody and this was a cute way to watch her become a mom (we don't have roos). I feel sorry for those of you who look for some ulterior motives or sneakiness and feel the need to suck the enjoyment of discovery out of an innocent situation.

Again, thank you to those who commented without the judgement.

Those babies are absolutely adorable!!! I can't even try to guess what breeds they are, with over 300 different breeds (many of whom look exactly alike as chicks) to take into consideration. I'll try to guess colors anyway though haha! I guess the first one's a buff something, the second one is some sorta partridge, and the third something white.

As for your friend collecting the eggs, GOOD FOR HER!!!! If I was your friend I would have taken the eggs as well. When we went to Fairs, every few cages would have notes saying "THIS PEN: Volunteers, Please Leave All Cleaning And Livestock Care To Owners. Please Do Not Remove, Feed, or Water." A few of the hen pens had little diary locks on them too to prevent egg thiefs. So if they leave cleaning and egg removal to the volunteers, I say FREEBIES!!! Haha! Your intention wasn't to steal breed or show quality, but to enjoy the charm of a pet becoming a mommy, and the thrill of having cute little bundles of fluff everywhere. I can imagine how cute bantam babies with a large Buff Orpington hen would look like, PLEASE POST PHOTOS!!! I'm dying to see them all together! It must be too cute you can't stand it!!

Calm down no need to get upset it was the way you said it "She snagged me 5 eggs from pair cages." Thats what lead people to think she just took eggs.
So pat down all those ruffled feathers and everyone shake hands....

Ummm, can't blame her. And I personally, absolutely detest someone telling me to calm down. The intent is only patronizing - nothing else. Perhaps one of you in the accusatory category could have asked "hey, whatcha mean by snagged haha", etc. No, I believe there are some folks sitting way up atop imaginary high horses anxiously awaiting someone to pounce upon. lol. YOU all are the ones who should chill. And don't bother trying to argue - just tuck your tails and go on because you know it is true.
OP, congrats on your hatch - I can't wait to do my first hatch as well...soon!

I dont think anyone was judging.... just wondering. As for the eggs left to be "disposed of" I doubt I would consider that to mean take home and hatch. just saying.

but besides all that, they sure are cute little fuzzy butts thats for sure! good luck with them.

They are adorable. The little golden one is just a tiny little smidge of a thing but awfully feisty! They are adorable and our momma is a Whopper of a Buff. We affectionately call her Big Betty! We're not showing folks so I'm not up on the breeds. I'm just excited to see what they all turn out to be! It's such a mystery. I'll take some pics this weekend and upload them. It is rather comical to see Big Betty and these itty bitty babies.

I especially loved watching her "teach" them to peck at the floor and scratch. SOOO CUTE!

Again, thank you to all of you who were kind and supportive!!!

I think that was awful to accuse and judge someone like that when you don't even know them....all I can say is if the eggs were that important they should have taken care of them theirselves.....I don't know of anyone desperate enough to steal eggs...LOL.....and if someone was.....why would they tell it on here of all places....I think people should ask questions before assuming or accusing....that is not very nice.....and good luck with your chicks!!!!!
