Adopting an entire flock - what should I know?

I adopted a huge flock of birds from a dear lady that had cancer, they were a bit of everything geese chickens ducks. they were scared and it helps to stoop to there level and talk and feed treats to them so they get used to you being the new owner let them out after a few days so they know that this coop is home and good luck to you!

Oh bless your heart for adopting a little mixed flock. I liked your idea about stooping to their level to make them less frightened. I turned over a milk crate, sat on it and spent an hour the first couple evenings just sitting with them, and giving them little bits of corn. By the way they were clucking about, I think they were saying, "Hey, this stranger is giving us candy! We like her!" It was fun, and theraputic for me as well

It appears they are making the transition very well!

Good luck with your new birds. You're a good person for taking them in. Hope they give you years of joy. I only have 3 hens, but I'm going to build them a bigger coop and run area - hey, you never know!
