My favorite Black Cochen went broody the day after I got rid of my mean rooster. We gathered the last few days eggs from everyone and decided to let her give it a try. Unfortunately, the last week or so of gestation got so hot, the six eggs that took ended up not hatching. Since Brenda had put so much effort into it throughout the hot days, and still wanted to brood, I decided to see if she would accept some new babies I bought locally.
Thanks to the recommendation of putting menthol around the hen's nostrils and a little on each baby, she accepted them within the hour. Proud mom and chicks are doing grand and are now on the porch untill it cools off or they get big enough to spend time outside.
Thanks Tofu Ranch for the cutest chicks and the advice!
Will post pictures as soon as I get them.
