ADOR1 Automatic Coop Door?

Ordered our door 2-3 weeks ago. Got an email on Monday with the tracking number. Had it by Friday. Installed today (Sunday). Took about 15 minutes to install, including the time to cut the hole out with a jigsaw. Husband is a hobby metal worker, and he is very pleased with it. Instructions recommended installing it 1-2" above the floor. We went up a few more inches than that in case we do the deep litter method. Battery cost $2.88 at Wally-World.

Sorry my photos are lopsided. The door is level.

Just painted yesterday. Still need to hang the ramp.

with the solar panel can you also hook up other things to like a light or fan? just wondering because i want to put one on my coop.

yes, but you would need quite a few panels and some batteries. fans and things like that take a lot of wattage.

Give Rod a call. His number is on his website and earlier in this thread. I know they are back-logged with orders. If you need it soon, let him know.

Well still no luck or update. I have emailed and left a phone message. Hopefully it will just show up soon. I can understand back logs and being very busy but you do need to communicate with your customers. The website didnt mention anything about 2-3 week delay.

You sound frustrated, and I don't blame you. I agree with you about communication with your customers; it's a must! Any time I have called him, he has answered. I usually call around mid afternoon which would be about noon his time. I can also tell you as a webmaster with two websites of my own, updating a website is usually one of the last things that gets done when you have work stacked up, and chances are he doesn't even do the updating himself. Keep us updated.

Waiting for the snow to melt (and make more mud) and then going to start installing.

DH wants to install so the sensor is on the outside, but door opens on the inside. We also purchase the connector for a remote switch on the inside of the coop. If we go into the run to push the switch, everybody has to come out of the coop to see what we are doing.

He's reading the instructions while we take a coffee/tea break.

Can't wait to get started!!!

I just received an email from Rod (sent to all pending orderers) to let me know why they have been delayed. It was a combination of their motors not coming in and their unexpected increase in orders...probably thanks to conversations like this one.

So happy for them having an increase in sales. I can wait another week or two for the door to be built and shipped. I think the wait will be worth it.

Thanks for the status update Rod, keeping your customers updated is key to keeping happy customers!

Thank you HmmmHolly for that note. Yes, I was trying to answer the phone and emails and I let some get lost. There's a story out of Steven Covey's book "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" about a guy walking by a lot where a man is furiously sawing down a tree. Returning by the same path, hours later, the guy sees the same man sawing on the same tree and says to him "you need to sharpen your saw", to which the man replies "I have to saw down all these trees! I don't have time to do that.". Well here I was handling individual calls and emails and let some slip away. My bad. People are very very nice and patient. It is amazing. Is it just chicken lovers? Yes, I think I am learning that the kind of people tuned-in to sustainable living and with a touch of farmer in them, are the salt of the earth and just great people to know. I love to meet and talk to people. Most the time as an engineer I am in my lab and not out with people. But sending out this broadcast email was like having a sharper saw. Let everybody know what they want to know, all at once. Back to work. We've got lots and lots of ADORs ready to ship soon after these long awaited motors show up. Thanks to everyone for their patience.

Thanks Rod! I'm glad we got our when we did. Sounds like we snuck in right before the rush. I mentioned it earlier, but you might not have read it, my husband is a hobby metal worker and an electrician by trade, and he was very impressed with the door. It has been working flawlessly so far! Not sure how long the battery will last with little kids pushing the button all the time, though. :D

I will wait to judge the photo sensor until summer when the big tree is leafed out and the sun is more North East that South when it sets.

Wow! What planet is your Wyoming on that the sun sets in the east?

From the Ador website:

"This remote sensor is just as sensitive to the built-in sensor. Remember that landscape lighting, porch lamps, yard lights and similar light sources, need to be far away or a shield needs to be placed between the light source and the sensor. A little bit of infra-red light can look to ADOR like dim daylight. "

Makes me wonder what happens with this (and any other auto chicken door brand) photo sensor on a clear night. What is the chance that the door will open for the racoons out looking for a snack on a full moon night?? What if someone lives where there is a lot of light pollution?
