craziest day yesterday.... i heard some weird shrieking sounds yesterday and went out unto my canal to see what i thought were black chicks. they ran in the water like crazy and LITERALLY disappeared!!! they actually dove under water) but the first one (their were two of them) popped up on the other side of the canal! the second was still not yet found. all of a sudden i heard and weak peeping and saw it tangled in some weeds! it was strangling on moss and couldn't breathe. at that moment it started poring rain. i quickly picked it up and ran inside. it was weak for the first few hours and didn't want to move. i was feeding it mealworms. i went out in search of his/her parents but i couldn't find any. I'm currently keeping it in a brooder and its running around like crazy. every time i come around to feed him he does this adorable crazy little dance. he isn't scared of me and sleeps on my hand sometimes. i am planning to raise him and soon let him go. but for now...Any name ideas? he reminds me of a T-Rex when he walks so maybe something related to that:) thanks!

Don't know what a moorhen is, will have to google it. But maybe you want to rethink the raising it and releasing it. Unless you have a wildlife rehab plan. If he is already bonding on you then releasing him is not a great idea.
Please, please think long and hard about that, it is just not a fair thing to do. Maybe there is a wildlife rehabber in your area and you can contact them?
Good luck to you both. I hope it all works out.

thank you for responding :) i have a pond in our yard that i will probably release her in so i could keep an eye on her:)

I hope you'll keep it till it's completely feathered in, at the age it is now it would need it's mother to keep it warm.

I am just concerned that if she or he becomes dependent on you for food and imprints on you, it will not make it even in your pond.

Boy those things are cute! Good thing they are not around here! LOL
