I have a 3 year old Blue Swedish hen who is not behaving as she has in springs past. When the two girls began laying again after winter, she laid one or two normal eggs, then has not laid a shelled egg since. Every couple days she produces a rubbery egg or something less recognizable - in the past she laid consistently almost daily throughout the summer. She occasionally displays a foamy eye, but doesn't seem to have any respiratory or other symptoms. She has access to layer food and free range forage. I currently am out of oyster shell, but laying didn't improve when it was available to her. Her behavior and demeanor are pretty normal, aside from maybe minor lethargy, but she's always been fairly lazy. I added some new ducklings this year - could this just be a stress reaction from their presence or am I dealing with a more serious health issue?

Any changes to their routine can cause upset. It could be the ducklings it could be something else going on, my girls get layer and I put oyster shell out for them and they eat it up. When I get a soft shell egg I start the one that laid it on Calcium Gluconate an give it too her orally until I see a good couple days of hard shell. Sometimes they just need extra if their bodies are getting depleated and after 2 yrs old most breeds aren’t laying like they did when younger.

Thanks, I appreciate the helpful response! I'll give calcium gluconate a try.
