Adult Chickens

Hey there everyone,

My flock of 6 got completely decimated the last 2 nights by a raccoon. I have found him, and also found how he got into the coop so I am confident nothing like this will happen again..and even "shored" up 1 area that might be an issue with my fencing. I am looking for adult layers to replace what I've lost. I usually get chicks from Tractor Supply (Straight Run), but don't want to go thru the winter raising as well as not getting any eggs. I usually start in Feb with raising so by the time Spring hits they are ready to be put into the outside coop and run...

Does anyone have direction on where to get adult chickens in the Des Moines Iowa and surrounding area?

You should look at the Buy, Sell, Trade section of the forums to see what other members have available right now.

Two good suggestions so far. You can call your county extension office, it is highly likely they can help. Also, talk to your feed store. Even if they don't know anybody maybe they have a bulletin board where you can put up a notice. Then, there is always Craigslist.

Tod , you would never believe what my wife found out by the the swan kennels this morning ! a huge possom-O dead I am so glad he didn't get in but what amazed me was the way he died . He for some reason tried to eat a large piece of gravel and it got stuck in his throat . It was still in there when I took him to the back to feed the buzzards .

My local Tractor Supply used to have Poultry Swaps once a month. You might call or check on Facebook and see if there are swaps in your area.
