Adult Drake with juvenile females

Hello, this is my first year with ducks and I started with 3 Golden 300s and two Indian runner mixes in the early summer and they are now about 9-10 weeks. We recently got an adult pair of welsh harlequins from someone and immediately the drake tried to mate with the juvenile Golden 300s. They are almost the same size and don’t really seem to mind his aggression but I have no idea if it will hurt them or be bad for them since they aren’t laying age? Here is a couple picture so you can see their size. They golden 300s are the dark ones with white bibs and spotty bills.
Also any tips and tricks for first time duck owners would be great! TIA

is he your only drake? and then you have 6 ducks right? then they’ll be fine.

my drake started mating the girls when he was 9 weeks old, and they didn’t lay eggs until 5 months. so they don’t need to be laying.

I believe he is the only drake. I know for sure my Goldens are all girls (very vocal quackers!) but I’m still not sure on the runners. They are very quiet and hard to hear whether they are developing a quack or rasp. The drake has shown no interest in the runners but my husband thinks that’s because they seem so different to the other ducks lol. They’ve shown no mating behavior at all.

Ohhh ok that makes sense. He hasn’t been aggressive to the runners at all but his aggressive mating attempts is how he’s showing he’s the dominate male? Thanks so much for the info. My husband and I have talked about separating the runners from the rest of the flock until we know for sure what they are.

yes, to show dominance a drake will mate with other boys. he will also be more aggressive to the girls.

are your ducks just pets or do you want to breed them? if you end up having two or more boys, i recommend having a girl flock and a drake flock. if the drakes are seperated from the girls they’ll be best friends

We are not looking to breed for ducklings at the moment, but want eggs for sure. I’d prefer, just to keep things simple to have a single flock and just rehome any extra drakes. I love my runners and I can separate them in the short term until we know for sure if they are drakes. Thanks so much for the advice! I don’t want any of them to get hurt so I want to get ahead of the situation for sure!
