Advanced degree in chicken math

Yes, DH is a total sucker for 6 y/o and 3 y/o DDs who go "But Daddy, the babies will FREEZE!!!" with sniffles and tears added. Now, the coop had a heater keeping it at 48*, despite the sub zero temps. DH and DS who is 17 both felt under the hen and everyone was toasty warm. They figured everyone would be fine. But the girls were sniffling about the poor baby chickies, and what does a Daddy do but bring the cheeps inside and since Momma wasn't leaving her babies alone, Momma came in also. Now, keep in mind, our brooder set up (set up for this time now, no sub arctic chill) was COLDER than the coop, so they are inside the house for now. I'd throw 'em all back outside, but I've been over ruled on that.

Our barn is pretty similar to one here on the large coop already, prefab and all that also, but ours isn't a split barn. It was supposed to have a loft, but didn't put that in because the peas like the 8 ft high roosts. Plus, it's peas only (yes, they have their own barn) for 9 peas with a huge attatched pen where they happily spend hours outside and go inside by choice or if it's into the sub zero temps, tho the sub zero weather moves inside result in much grumbling about going inside. The pen goes out 48', along the pea side and the back. The front door and the other side doors open to storage usually. There is a smaller coop there, about 8' x 8', and that has a pop door to the small outside run there also. The guineas get that when it's breeding season to not have interspecies breeding - I'm pretty sure a black Orph roo and a guinea hen will not produce lovely babies, despite what the hen thinks.
