Adventure into building an incubator and hatching!

Well, this experiment went badly. Of the 6 eggs I started with 1 was infertile, 2 were quitters, 2 were misaligned with their heads in the pointy end of the shell, and the last one was in the right position, internally pipped, nice membrane, yolk and veins absorbed but did not hatch.

I'm sorry I hope you do better next time

sorry this lot didnt make it. your next batch will and you are wiser because of this exprience. i wish you success for your next hatch.

try a diff set up next time maybe- with a metal cookie tray at bottom of bator and with foil on the bottom of the bator, a clamp light coming through a hole at the side but near the bottom so the heat rises. it is important to have rising heat.

sorry about your loss.

Thanks all. I'm definitely going to be trying again but I'm sitting down and rethinking my build. I do not like the way this one worked out. The cooler was to small and not insulated enough to help maintain the heat. Going to completely rebuild a new incubator and try again.

I have had to insulate too, I build my box bator then use outdoor cushions for under and on the sides as needed I watch the heat for the first 48 hr make sure it is stable then watch as the eggs go in. I make sure the eggs have warmed to room temp before placing them. you def don't want cold eggs.

you can see the couch cushions.

great cant wait to see if your new design gives you more success dont throw this one away tho maybe you can use it as hatcher after all it did work you got developed embryos and once the embryos get to a certain stage they can maintain and produce heat themselves. this is kind of how my staggered hatching system works to regulate my bator. years ago i read something about hatching eggs using heated rice hulls it is seemly complex but really the concept isnt. the hulls are replaced few times daily on eggs of different stages and the embryos that are more advanced help to develop the more recent set eggs when the eggs are at day 18 are taken to sauna like hatching rooms. i am sure if you google it you will find it so you get a better explaination and descsription.
