Adventures in Incubating Shipped Eggs

Ohhh.... are you saying that 'delivery' is something different from 'shipping'? Meaning, they drive the chicks over, themselves?

That's what it looks like, from what Morrigan posted - it specifies delivery as different from shipping. You'd probably have to get hold of them to see what the order size is, and how much it costs to have them delivered, but specifying 'delivery to Willamette Valley' suggests that they might have someone deliver it to you from the hatchery.

That's to ship, I was hoping that that it might only be 5 chicks for local deliveries, as it is for local pick-ups, as there is not the worry of the chicks getting cold.

The people there have been super friendly and helpful in the past when I have called, so if you were interested, you could try contacting them.

I feel for you. It's hard to get chicks late in the season, and I always worry about them getting shipped when it is so hot. My fingers are crossed that your other egg will prove to be viable after all.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate that. :hugs

Update on my Papa's Poultry hatch from a month or two ago...
Jeff replied and said that the Lemon Orps must have a recessive white gene, hence my White Orp. He also said that he's sorry I had a poor hatch, but with a small shipment like mine, there wouldn't have been any older eggs shipped by mistake. All the same, he's replacing the eggs with no charge, if I cover shipping.

I said 'yes,' since I love every bird I've hatched from his eggs... so I'll be up to my ears with incubating and brooding this summer! I can't double my chicken numbers, so I'll need to chose the favourites and rehome some. Very interested to see how this hatch goes with the same incubation methods!

Well my barnyard mix of eggs that I am incubating for the neighbor, who I gave the guineas to went into lockdown last evening. This morning I could see internal pip into air sack on one. Had to go to work so I am anxiously waiting to get home hopefully to a new fuzz butt.:weeMaybe post new photos when I get home.

My "Snowshoe" peachicks are growing well and go into lockdown the 12th.:bow

Early is better than late. One hatched. Two more pipped.:celebrate

I couldn't resist.... I had to take a peek...

Of my thirty little blue eggs, I looked at three. One has a red streak in it - maybe the start of veins, hard to say. The other two have clear spiderwebs in them... and one of those two is the cracked egg. Large impact crack that happened during shipping, so I've got the side of the egg all taped up. No leakage. It has a clear, bright spiderweb. Going to be a few more days before I go through and check them all - but it's good to see!
