Adventures in Incubating Shipped Eggs

I couldn't resist.... I had to take a peek...

Of my thirty little blue eggs, I looked at three. One has a red streak in it - maybe the start of veins, hard to say. The other two have clear spiderwebs in them... and one of those two is the cracked egg. Large impact crack that happened during shipping, so I've got the side of the egg all taped up. No leakage. It has a clear, bright spiderweb. Going to be a few more days before I go through and check them all - but it's good to see!
:fl

I resisting the temptation to get in the incubator this time. I candled day 7 to check air cells mainly. Air cells look good and saw a few little wigglers I will candle tonight day 10 and remove clears. I’m hoping the ify ones on day 7 were veins not the start of blood rings. :fl

These little blue eggs are taking too long.
Is there any such thing as a fast egg?

Early is better than late. One hatched. Two more pipped.

Loving the pictures. A new hatched, still wet, chick is so precious. What's happening with those two pippers?

So small update on my July hatch. I did a candle today and I had two little ducklings from Texas poking at the air sac membrane. The two others are only a day or two behind these two.

In the candling for the Texas ones they their are two that are almost completely dark with nearly set air cells from all the pictures i can tell. And the other two are almost there. So I upped the humidity and removed the other WH eggs to my other bator. They have almost two weeks on them before they are ready, to keep them rotating and heated while these guys do their things.

It looks like I may have a hatching in the next few days!

Forgot to mention. #2 pipped before I left for work yesterday. When I got home he was halfway zipped but stopped and his beak was back at the original pipped hole. Hmmmm...... I decided it was time to investigate. Slowly chipping away shell and watching for veins or yolk. Got the cap off and he gave me a big thank you as he stretched his legs and hopped out in my hands. Had quite a bit of membrane and shell stuck to his back. Yolk was completely absorbed. So we had a little bath in warm water to clean up and into the brooder to dry. So nice when assistance turns out successful.:celebrate

Very exciting!

A surprise this morning! The lone Isabella Leghorn hatched before dawn, the only one of the 14 shipped eggs that made it to lockdown. I took two days off work for chick hatching, but I need a long term solution for a companion. My boxer is offering to stand in as chick mama. I appreciate her earnest wish to help, but I don't think I'll take her up on it. IMG_7586.JPG IMG_7582.JPG
